UNC-Chapel Hill will begin posting financial aid packages to My UNC accounts for admitted first-year students in the very near future. While these initial awards are roughly two weeks later than we had anticipated, they will still allow students who have applied for need-based aid to compare Carolina's package with those of other schools well in advance of the May 1, 2008, national reply deadline.
Kiplinger's Personal Finance consistently ranks Carolina as the "best value in public higher education." Our educational quality is high; and we offer excellent need-based aid sufficient to cover a student's full need. Approximately two-thirds of that aid is in the form of scholarships and grants, the remainder in work-study and loans.
We realize that admitted students will need to select a college or university and commit by May 1, and that they will need adequate time to consider and compare financial aid offers. The delay in awards has been caused by technical difficulties with the University's soon-to-be-replaced information system.
Regardless of the timing of awards, the University has adequate funds to meet the full need of all undergraduate students who are admitted, applied for financial aid by the March 1 deadline, and demonstrate need. For confirmation of the award postings, please continue to check this
website. Please also be assured that we will meet 100 percent of the demonstrated financial need of on-time financial aid applicants to Carolina.
